Red Mossambicus Tilapia is also know as Blou Kurper or Blue Bream, though this is a specially bred red variety

Mossambicus tilapia are mouth brooders and breed up to 4-5 times per year. As a result they have a very large mouth.

They occur throughout most of tropical Africa, including Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa. They thrive is water temperatures between 25⁰C and 32⁰C.

They eat algae, and are often introduced into dams to clean up the excess vegetation and are also used as a mosquito controller. In an aquaponics scenario they will eat fish pellets, duckweed, earthworms and crickets. They do also eat lettuce, but not at the same rate as Rendalli

Studies have shown that where Tilapia farming is introduced, there was a 94% reduction in 2 types of Anopheles mosquito, the common malaria vector species.

Our Fingerlings are all larger than 2-3 cm.

PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME PROVINCES SUCH AS THE WESTERN CAPE DO NOT ALLOW FOR TILAPIA TO BE KEPT WITHOUT A PERMIT - PLEASE ENQUIRE WITH YOUR LOCAL DEPARTMENT OF NATURE CONSERVATION.

You can collect by appointment only subject to stock availability.
