Vermiculite is a good retainer of water/moisture and often used in hydroponics and standard growing systems to germinate seeds and grow seedlings. It can also be mixed with other grow media such as cocopeat or even dense soil, to add aeration.

Vermiculite can hold several nutrients such as potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, which are required for plant growth. Colour, composition, and pH of vermiculite vary depending where it was mined..

Vermiculite is odourless and non-toxic. 

Supplied in a 100 Litre bags. Also available in 10 Litre bags

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT VERMICULITE TENDS TO COMPACT WHEN PACKAGED SO IT WILL ALWAYS BE LESS THAN THE VOLUMETRIC MEASUREMENT SHOWN ON THE BAGS. Every 10l bag should weigh around 800 grams, or 8Kg per 100l bag

    I have just started using it in a 50:50 mixture with perlite. At this early stage it seems to work very well. It is light with lots voids making air available to the roots. It seems to hold plenty of water and is definitely an improvement on pure perlite used before.
