THIS HYDROPONIC SCHOOL PROJECT DESERVES AN A++
Shani and Mia, both grade 9 pupils at Hoerskool Waterkloof in Pretoria, stumbled upon our Myaquaponics website while doing research for their school project. They were looking for information on hydroponic systems, hydroponic nutrients and net pots.
On 2 April, accompanied by Shani's mother Ciska, they visited our premises to collect the hydroponic nutrients and net pots. They explained the objective of their project, which was to compare the plant growth in an hydroponic system (water) versus growing in soil. They were extremely enthusiastic and it was encouraging to see that in young people, as they are our future, and growing own food will be a trend that will reduce food wastage and carbon emissions.
Shani and Mia planning the way forward
...and below their incredible journey.. Its easy to see from these photos who the winner was.

WEEK 3 - Hydroponics (left) and Soil (right)
WEEK 4 - Hydroponics (left) and Soil (right)
AND THE WINNER IS??? ......HYDROPONICS (By far)
The girls also concluded that Hydroponics used less water and that the hydroponic plants were not attacked by snails and other garden pests (but that could be a result of plants being raised above ground in the plastic container).
Plants planted in soil were attacked by snails as shown by the arrow below
Congratulations Girls and hope you get the highest marks possible.. you both deserve it!!!
